Biogas is a gas produced by the anaerobic digestion of organic matter including manure, sewage sludge, municipal solid waste, biodegradable waste or any other biodegradable feedstock/substrate including green energy crops, under anaerobic conditions. It is comprised primarily of methane (55-65%) and carbon dioxide (30-40%). It also contains smaller amounts of hydrogen sulphide, nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen (3-5%).
Whereas biogas is usable as a household fuel in its raw form, some basic scrubbing for harmful / corrosive gases and water vapours is advisable to avoid harm to supply lines. In its pure form bio-methane, it is even more supply-worthy than natural gas / sui-gas.
